VS Code (Copilot)
Add the Helipod MCP server and skills to GitHub Copilot agent mode in VS Code.
MCP tools in VS Code are used by GitHub Copilot in agent mode. This setup follows VS Code's MCP configuration format.
Requirements
- VS Code with GitHub Copilot, agent mode enabled.
- Node.js 18 or newer for the local server.
- A Helipod API key, see Get a key.
Add the server
For one project, create .vscode/mcp.json. For all projects, run MCP: Open User Configuration from the Command Palette and add the same servers entry there.
{
"servers": {
"helipod": { "type": "http", "url": "https://api.helipod.io/mcp" }
}
}Start the server: VS Code asks to sign in, opens the Helipod page in the browser, and you choose the products and reach and Allow.
Note that VS Code uses "servers", not "mcpServers" as most other tools do.
Add the skills
npx skills add helipodapp/mcp -g -a github-copilotCheck it works
- Open
mcp.json: a Start / Running marker appears above the server. Start it and enter the key when asked. - In Copilot Chat, switch to Agent mode and open the tools picker: the Helipod tools are listed.
- Ask: "List my Helipod projects." Copilot asks before running the tool.
Notes
- VS Code limits how many tools one request can use. If it warns, untick Helipod tools you do not need in the tools picker.
- Keep confirmation on for tools; do not auto-approve tools that cost money or delete things.
Troubleshooting
Open Output → MCP: helipod for the error. If npx is not found, use the full path from which npx (or where npx on Windows) as command.
Run MCP: List Servers → helipod, stop it, and clear the stored input (or change the input id) so VS Code asks again.
