Mailboxes
Receive mail on your domain, create mailboxes and aliases, forward mail, and read it in webmail.
Helipod Email can also receive mail. You turn on receiving for a verified domain, publish one MX record, and create mailboxes such as [email protected]. Mailbox users read and send mail in webmail at inbox.helipod.io.
Before you start, activate the email service and verify a domain, see Email sending domain. Receiving must be included in your plan; if it is not, Mailboxes shows Receiving is not on your plan with a link to View plans.
Turn on receiving
Open Email → Domains and expand your verified domain with Show DNS setup. The Receiving (inbound) step becomes available once the sending records are verified.
Enable receiving
Click Enable receiving. The dialog asks Where should Helipod receive mail?
- A subdomain (recommended): type a subdomain, for example
mail. Addresses look like[email protected], and the mailbox you already use on the root domain keeps working. - The domain itself: addresses look like
[email protected].
Click Enable on ... to confirm.
Publish the MX record
The step now shows an MX record with a Host and a Value. Copy it into your DNS provider (for a Helipod domain: Domains → My Domains → DNS Records, see Buy a domain).
Verify
Wait for DNS to propagate and click Verify. Mail starts arriving once the MX record is detected.
Pointing the MX of your root domain to Helipod moves all mail for that domain here. If the domain already has an MX record (for example a Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 mailbox), you must tick I understand my current mailbox will stop receiving mail before you can continue. Use a subdomain to keep your existing mailbox.
To stop receiving, click Disable receiving on the same step.
Create a mailbox
Open Email → Mailboxes. The header shows how many mailboxes your plan allows and how many aliases each can have.
New mailbox
Click New mailbox. Fill in:
- Address: the part before the
@(letters, numbers, dots, dashes or underscores), and the Domain if you receive on more than one. - Display name (optional): shown as the sender name on replies.
- Forward to (optional): addresses that get a copy of every message, including mail to aliases. Forwarding is available on paid plans and counts toward your sending quota.
- Notify me: show a dashboard notification for new mail.
- Active: a paused mailbox (and its aliases) accepts no new mail.
Click Create mailbox.
Set a webmail password
Under Webmail login, click Set password. Type a password of at least 10 characters (or use the generated one), copy the address and password, and click Save password.
Sign in to webmail
Click Open webmail, or go to inbox.helipod.io, and sign in with the full address and the password. Webmail is where mailbox users read, reply to and send mail.
Plus addressing works without any setup: mail to [email protected] arrives in [email protected].
Manage mailboxes
Each mailbox row shows its unread count and these controls:
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Add alias | Adds another address, for example billing@, delivered into this mailbox. Aliases cannot sign in to webmail. |
| Pause / resume | Pause mailbox stops new mail for the mailbox and its aliases; Resume mailbox turns it back on. A paused mailbox shows Paused. |
| Edit mailbox | Change the display name, forwarding, notifications and active state. |
| Reset password | Sets a new webmail password. Existing webmail sessions are signed out. |
| Turn off webmail login | Removes the password, so nobody can sign in. Mail is still received. |
| Delete mailbox | Deletes the mailbox. You type the address to confirm. |
Storage and extra mailboxes
The Storage panel shows the space used across all mailboxes and the mail received this billing cycle. When storage is full, or the monthly receiving limit is reached, new mail is not received until you add more or the cycle renews.
Click Add storage or mailboxes (or Add storage) to open Mailbox add-ons. Use Extra mailboxes and Extra storage (GB) to set what you need; the dialog shows what your plan includes, the price per unit per month and what you pay now. Add-ons are billed from your wallet and renew with your plan. Reductions apply straight away, and the rest of the period is not refunded.
Reading mail in your app
Every received message can also trigger an email.received webhook (set it up under API & webhooks) and can be read through the Email API, see Inbox.
Mailboxes are read in webmail or through the API. IMAP and POP3 settings for desktop mail clients are not offered.
Contacts and broadcasts (Beta)
The Marketing part of the Email menu is for newsletters:
- Contacts: your subscribers, up to your plan's limit. Add them one by one, import a CSV (after confirming you have their consent), and keep a suppression list of addresses that must never be mailed.
- Segments (Beta): group contacts into audience segments and topics.
- Broadcasts (Beta): write a newsletter or campaign, save it as a draft, then send it or schedule it to a segment. Broadcasts must be included in your plan.
